day 1 started later than i had planned by leaving at 12 but there was so much to do last minute. i managed to fill the car without it being packed to the ceiling which is nice.

i hit several areas of road work which slowed things down to 0 mph for quite some time.
bridge work. rain storms. 3 tolls. stopped in pilot mountain, nc for lunch but that was it.
searched desperately to find a hotel in charleston, WV with NO luck. apparently there is an enormous baptist convention in town that has every room booked. and i mean, every room.... called a ton, stopped at a few but had to keep driving to the bustling town of cross lanes, WV. finally, a comfort inn had rooms and there was a line out the door to get them.
pet peeve: a multi-floored hotel with NO ELEVATOR! um, really? i have bags. lots and lots of bags that i don't want to leave in the car. what color is this toilet?? the photo doesn't do it justice...
oh and the only restaurants in town are cracker barrel and tgi fridays and both were packed. packed with baptists that didn't book a room in time in charleston. so tgi fridays it was. i haven't been there in, well, years and years and i'd be ok if i didn't go for another few years. all i can say is, where was the flair?!
the goal for tomorrow is to hit louisville, KY and on to evansville, IN.
