day 2: so not how it's supposed to go...

at least the day started out sunny...

late-ish start - 10:15am.  could have been worse though.  we decided to wait to stop and get gas so we could get on the road.  saw a sign for a beech fork dam and thought it might be a good place to stop and could possibly be interesting.  after turning off the freeway there was a sign saying 8.5 miles to the dam so we decided to give it a try.  after driving some small, winding and not marked roads, we finally arrived.  it was underwhelming to say the least.  it was basically a tiny lake with a few boats on it.  whatevs.

we start heading back and following the gps.  somehow we ended up on even smaller, even crazier scary dirt roads that were only 1 lane and on the sides of mountains.

no matter what way we went, we kept getting more and more lost.  this lasted about an hour and about ran out of gas.  finally saw a house with a shirtless guy on the front porch with cowboy boots on.  yelled at him for help and he came and gave some semi-directions.  took forever, but finally made it out of there on fumes.

head back on the road and of course run into crazy one lane traffic.  it happens, no big deal.  then hit the worst thunderstorm i've ever been in.  i mean, raining harder than i've ever seen and could not see the hood of my car.  inched my way to the next exit and pulled into a small town gas station along with everyone else.  the town was olive hill, KY.

i didn't care.  i was just happy they had cell reception.  waited there for awhile until it calmed down and bit and then headed out.

a ways down the road, still raining of course, i notice up ahead an SUV driving wildly through the median.  at first i thought he was doing a u-turn but apparently he was wrecking...RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY CAR!  luckily i was watching and was able to slam on breaks as he jetted out across all lanes of traffic and hit the guard rail directly to my right.  close call...he was fine and luckily an officer was right behind us and stopped.

after all of this i decided to forget indiana today and made it to louisville, KY.

there was a ton of traffic getting into town so it was a good call.  drove around some and walked down the waterfront and watched the sun set.
