my new favorite place

uwajimaya.

it's my new fave store.

it's all things japanese and it makes me happy.  i can't believe i haven't been in there before.  i could spend HOURS in there and probably will next time i go.  it totally felt like i was back in japan and i wanted to stay.

but...the place wasn't perfect.

my worst nightmare as i think mayonnaise is the spawn of the devil.

they also had grapefruits the size of my head.

they were seriously enormous.

i would totally work there if it didn't smell like fish.

saturday

last saturday lee and i ventured out to try a new restaurant called isabel pearl for brunch.

one word:  yum.

we then attempted to walk around.  and by attempted i mean, lee hobbled with her leg cast on...

but we were more obsessed with the dog tied up outside than the neighborhood.

because let's be honest, i probably like dogs more than people a lot of the time.

it was a nice day though so we walked a few blocks.

then we went on an excursion to the beave to get froyo (lee's fave).

nothing like seeing this sign flipper.

once again, the sky was beautiful...

the view

the weather has been fantastic lately with rain levels being at a record low for january.

i'm NOT complaining about that.

i had a derm appointment in a building down by the water that was on the top floor.  the view was unbelievable even though it was cloudy.

and i'll end this post here...it's already the most boring ever...

here comes the sun

the sun came out this morning.

and luckily stayed out the entire day!

insert happy face here.

lee (sister) and i went to get lunch after she was on call at the hospital all night.

i took her to the people's sandwich of portland.

she's a people's sandwich virgin and luckily she loved it.

ps.  people's sandwich is now offering:

lee insisted on her usual post call froyo but this time we decided to keep it in the downtown area.

she wasn't loving it so we ended up at pudding on the rice where, you guessed it, they serve rice pudding.

lee loved it and sampled everything.  every single one of them.

i had tart froyo which was equally yum.

now back to the sunshine...

we walked around a little bit.  i mean, when the weather is nice you have to grab it by the balls.

and random dude sleeping on the bench.  his tag said "security".  hmmm...

after getting home later, there was the hottest hot pink sunset ever.   i couldn't get my camera till it was almost gone...

powell's books - ok, so i still haven't been

i know there is more but i can't think of them right now.  any suggestions?

time to get on it...

vote.

tomorrow is november 2nd and that means one thing - VOTE.

i did.

i voted early through the mail because that is how oregon does it.

of course i got a follow up letter saying that my signature didn't match from when i signed up so I had to send in a new one.

but i voted.

i have never understood people's ambivalence to voting.

we are damn lucky to have the right to vote so use it.

if you're not registered, do so.  it takes seconds.

director park

the rainy season has officially begun.

shoot me now, please.

it's sunny one minute and then dark and gray the next and rains for hours.

there was one of those sunny moments today so i headed downtown and ended up in director park.  i lucked out with parking and scored right away.

i walked around and checked out the park.  which really means, a big stone block.

in the middle of the stone "park" is a glass food place called violetta.  it's a local burger joint that uses only fresh, local ingredients.

i was just happy to see the sun...

voodoo doughnuts

after my lack of sleep at the sleep clinic, i headed downtown to walk around and waste time.

i then remembered that we've (sissy and i) been talking about getting my dad a t-shirt from voodoo doughnuts.

my dad doesn't collect anything, he doesn't like sports and he doesn't drink, therefore, gifts are a prob.  what he does like, is t-shirts.

voodoo doughnuts is apparently famous.  it's been on tv and there is always a line down the block.  i had never been because i'm not a doughnut fan.

i braved the line all in the name of a gift for pops....

only to find out they didn't have any in his size.

seriously!?

i wasn't leaving there empty handed so i bought 1 doughnut.

i asked for the simplest, plain one they had.  he suggested the devil's food cake glazed.

they have many crazy flavors on the menu but i'm not a big sweets person.  luckily the doughnut wasn't very big.  and sadly it took my 3 days to finish it.

but it was damn good....

multnomah falls

hood river & multnomah falls

we arrived in hood river in time for a late lunch.

hood river is a small town on the river known for wind surfing.  the weather was too bad to see anyone doing it.  cute town though.

we then moved onto multnomah falls.

it was amazing.  there are no other words to describe it.  well, except extremely damp.

the exit sits in the middle of the freeway.

and you cross under the freeway to get to the falls.

too bad pictures can't do the falls justice.

we took the winding wet trail up to the bridge.

then it was back to portland and reality.

all good things must come to an end....
