and the rain begins

rain.

yesterday i woke up to the smell of rain.  there is something about the smell of the first rain...

everything began to smell so clean.

it was only mildly drizzling but enough to leave me soaked after walking the dogs.

i guess it's time to invest in some rain gear....

because today, the rain was much worse.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

went to the doctor today.

figured it was time to find one here in case i get sick.  plus i needed to get my vitamin b12 shot.

on a recommendation, i went to this PA that is associated with OHSU where lee is in school.

the nurse said that the PA had a student with her and would i mind her tagging along.

i had a feeling lee would know her.

of course the girl was in lee's class.  what a small, small world.  she was great though.

i have to say it was the most thorough doc visit i've ever had.

i got a b12 shot and a tetanus shot, one in each arm.

ouch.  both arms are killing me tonight.

but at least i'm vaccinated against whooping cough.  who knew there was an epidemic in oregon?

lazy hiatus

apparently i'm on a lazy hiatus.

i think it's the new tv's fault.

or perhaps comcast cable?

they are equally to blame.

so there are no real adventures to report.  i did venture out today to get some jewelry making findings.    before i left the house though, i looked up and saw a rainbow in the clouds.

i made a list of jewelry places to hit and only managed to hit one.  they were all in different sections of town and of course i didn't get out of the house before 3:30 and that equals bad traffic.  oh well...there is always another day.

i did end up crossing the steel bridge that i've photographed many times.  it crosses over the willamette river.

it's crazy because the rail passes right beside you.

all of this to say that i made it to a jewelry supply store in the NE section of town to get some jump rings.

one good thing about my new tv/cable.....i make more jewelry.  hope to add new pieces to etsy soon...

i broke down...

i did it.

i broke down.

i broke down and bought a new tv.

i've been on a tv detox for about 9 weeks.

it's been good for me but damn i've missed it.

my sweet, sweet tv.

i got an inexpensive flat screen for my room and tomorrow, mr. cable man is set to arrive between 8am-10am.

i'll believe it when i see it.  have they ever been on time?  ever even made it in the window they promised?

i don't care when he comes.

as long as he brings my beautiful cable box with free dvr for a year.

bring it, comcast!

inspiration

woke up today uninspired.

so i went in search of some inspiration and once again ended up taking another look at ann humphreys hooping videos.

she's a badass with a hula hoop.  and she's a chapel hill girl.

i so wish i could do this...here is one of my faves...

sweltering...

heat.

sweltering heat.

the last few days have been unbearable.

yesterday - 98 degrees, today - 100 degrees.

all would be peachy if we had AIR CONDITIONING.

but no....no we don't.

so our little apartment turns into an oven.  an oven that doesn't cool down until 2am.

tomorrow the heat advisory is ending in the evening and it can't come fast enough.

for reals.

the weather gods are trying to kill me.

i finally couldn't take it this afternoon and i ventured out.

i went to the SW section of portland in hopes of finding a restaurant that had cold drinks and even colder a/c.

i ended up at kenny & zuke's delicatessen.

i've heard about it but never been.  it's a jewish deli that serves RIDICULOUSLY sized portions of traditional jewish fare and then some.

they did not disappoint.

everyone working there was young and very attractive.  and they were all men.  delicious.

back to the food.

i decided to try a pastrami reuben because, hey, that's what they are known for.

it was enormous and i could not even eat half.  no wonder the sandwich costs $12.95.  other sandwiches i saw were much bigger....

it was fantastic and tender and melt-in-your-mouth.  sinfully delicious.

while sitting there, i noticed snowboarder/skateboarder shaun white.  it's hard to miss his hair.

flaming red and very curly.

he was in town for the dew tour and apparently won the vert title right before going to eat.  he's got mad skills and is amazing to watch.  and he can crush a sandwich.

then it was back to the oven....

tv detox

i admit it.

i love tv.

i really do.

i like watching it before bed.   while i'm making jewelry.  or just when something good is on.

i like the option.

i decided to leave my tv behind when i moved.  p. and i bought it before we moved to LA and that was in 2003.  and let's just say it wasn't top of the line.  it's been a fine tv but lately, it's been losing it's color.

so hauling it wasn't worth it.

i admit i had hopes of buying a new flat panel tv once i settled in.  but too many other bills have had to be paid.

oh how i miss my sweet, sweet tv.

so it's just me and my laptop.  and my itunes.

i've taken this lack of tv opportunity to watch some new shows.

that's how i arrived at "dexter".

and i'm hooked.

i've been watching it at night before i go to bed and often times falling asleep on an episode.

not the best images to have in your mind before you drift off to sleep.

you see, dexter is a serial killer.  a charming one, but still a serial killer.  you get the drift....

before, i was falling asleep to "ncis" and having delightful dreams about mark harmon.  now i dream of michael c. hall and bloody crime scenes.

might be time for a new bedtime show....but damn i love it.
